Digging a new foundation – Helsinki, Finland – 10 February 2021

2020s, Finland, Helsinki, Photography

Early Wednesday morning and the diggers are at work. Digging out the foundation for a new building in Jätkäsaari. My view is going to ruined when this building is raised up.

Bright blue icy Friday afternoon – Helsinki, Finland – 05 February 2021

I love those frosty bright sunny afternoons in the nordic. The colours seem so much more vibrant! More so than the summer. Perhaps it’s the contrast with the stark white of the snow against the bright blue of the sky. I haven’t seen that level of blueness since I visited Greece in 2014.

I love using the Panasonic LX15 /LX10 as I can use the camera with gloves on. Trying to use a phone in -15C to take photos is very difficult.

Rent a person who does nothing

2020s, Thought Provoking

In Japan, a man rents himself out

Morimoto commits to “doing nothing” and basically just gives back-channel feedback when someone speaks to him. “I myself don’t like to be cheered on by others. I get upset when people simply tell me keep on trying. When someone is trying to do something, I think the best thing to do is to help lower the bar for them by staying at their side,” he explains.

This story is so quintessentially Japanese. I doubt if the same concept would work in another culture without being corrupted in some way.

It’s 2021! Happy New Year!

2020s, Web

Thank feck for a new start!

Just got the blog moved over to another host. It’s something that I do every 3 years or so. Something happens at a web host that means that a move becomes necessary.  This time, the renewal fees were costing 1 year what I got for 3 years before. I can see why this works with admins who don’t have so much experience with databases and PHP. And this was a pain going through problems in the database migration and working out server permissions. But this is the final test to make sure that it is working.

Happy new year and I wish you the best for 2021!
