Pulitzer Winning Photographer David Turnley’s Advice to a Class of Photojournalism Students
If you work in an organization, the underlying rule is simple: People are not afraid of failure, they’re afraid of blame.
Business, Development, Tech, Thought ProvokingAnother pearl from Seth Godin.
Just finished a podcast series of his this week called the Startup School. Excellent insights in 15 parts that Seth gave into starting a business.

New open source code editors
Development, Tech, WebIt’s been a while since I’ve examined any new code editors using Notepad++ all of the time. I found this article mentioning 5 new free editors that I’m going to explore over the next few weeks. They all look pretty cool.
Mapping the world
Groundbreaking, Tech, Thought Provoking, Travel, WebI love this article, a neat and practical way of developing the world in which we live.

Whether the goal is to prevent cholera or crime, Missing Maps is a crucial first step. For much of the developing world, our current digital maps may as well say ‘Here there be dragons.’ There’s a long way to go, but someone has at last picked up a sword.
SanDisk Unleashes a Massive 512GB SD Card with the World’s Highest Capacity
Photography, Tech, Thought ProvokingSecure Digital eXtended-Capacity (SDXC) memory cards have a maximum theoretical storage capacity of 2 terabytes, and today the industry just got one step closer towards hitting that limit. SanDisk has announced the world’s highest capacity SD card for photographers and videographers: the 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO® SDXC UHS-I card.
Hmmm, when will the 1TB card be coming?
“Take picture now of what we have.â€
Photography, Thought ProvokingA fascinating article around photography and the World Trade Centre. I totally agree that photographing the banal will be valuable in the future when that life is gone.
In the summer of 2001, Konstantin Petrov took hundreds of digital photographs, mostly of offices, table settings, banquettes, sconces, stairwells, kitchen equipment, and elevator fixtures. Many shots were lit by the rising sun, with the landscape of the city in the background, gleaming and stark-shadowed, more than a hundred floors below.
“It’s a big lesson to all of us,†Don said. “Take picture now of what we have.â€

Irish now on Duolingo
Ireland, Mobile, Tech, Thought Provoking, WebDuolingo which is a fantastic language learning tool (I have it on my phone). It’s perfect for short bursts of brushing up on a language in small 10 minute sessions.
Now, I just found this post on Reddit that they have added Irish.
It’s still in beta so it can only be used on your computer. Once, it has come out of beta, it will be available on the mobile app.
Cool!
3 years since the Utøya attack. Survivor does AMA on Reddit
Thought ProvokingIt’s hard to believe that it’s three years since the attach on Utøya by Breivik already. I remember watching the news reports from a hotel room in Paris.
Today on Reddit, there is a fascinating AMA (Ask Me Anything) with one of the survivors of the attack. Very interesting questions and answers about the event and the aftermath.
The top rated one is the following:

There was this one girl I got to know. The day before the attack she told me about her older sister who died before she was born. She told me that her purpose in life was to live the life for her sister. She died the next day.
World ice hockey final 2014
Finland, Helsinki, Ice Hockey, Photography, SportFinland made it to the final of the annual world ice hockey tournament. This tournament loses value in that it is held every year, including years when the Olympics are on and doesn’t feature the top players who are appearing in NHL finals. It would be the equivalent if holding the World Cup at the same time as the later stages of the champions league.
Still the final last Sunday was an enjoyable occasion. It seems that one Helsinki bar has worked out that a terrace + huge clear screen + rock band in Finland shirts and kilts is a winning formula. That bar was working all night and even outside the terrace, many bystanders watched the game with drinks purchased there. Would it be too much to expect the same experience during the World Cup?
